During my musical (web)explorations I (luckily) stumble upon some great tracks which in my opinion do deserve some promo. I’ll call those series ‘Gems’. So here’s the first Gem.

The artist is Mike Dehnert and the EP is named Colombage EP, released on the man’s own label Fachwerk records. The track you can hear is Brauchbar. That minimal techno beat nicely layered with those Detroit techno chords is just perfect.

I’m a big fan of Robert Hencke. If you don’t know the name, you might maybe know him as Monolake. The guy is an excellent electronic music producer. His music is often described with the words: spacious, complex, minimalistic, techno, dub, ambient. He’s an active developer of Ableton Live and collaborates with Cycling 74 to integrate MAX for Live. I find his work and approach towards music creation very inspirational. I never have used MAX, but hearing how he talks about it and the sonic possibilities it seems to offer I’m surely willing to give it a try.

Electronic Groove is a podcast website. They just released their podcast #107, featuring Omar Salgado. My first thoughts when listening to the set was: “wow, pounding grooves”. These are the kind of beats that make me go lalala all the way. Though, when I see the track listing I must admit I’m not acquainted with most of the names. I do now some of them but not a lot. Anyway this is good, more good music and artists to discover.

Omar Salgado is also a very talented producer with releases on labels like (un)foundsound, miniscule,….

Percussion Lab released a DJ set from Dj Stefny also known as Stefny Winter.
They introduce themselves as follows:

Percussion is a collective of like-minded artists, DJs, record labels and selectors. Since 2002 we’ve been curating an exclusive collection of live and DJ sets from our favorite artists, DJs and record labels which we hope will give you a taste of the Percussion Lab community.

DJ Stefny is one of my favourite DJ’s. I discovered her trough Archipel, pheek’s label. Every set she plays features a lot of excellent techno, deep-house influenced beats and minimal with a freaky Stefny touch. I was wondering how to calculate the average of a series of times for a project I’m working on. In fact, it’s quiet simple.

Here’s how I did it.

Imagine you have 4 times you want to know the average of.

08:30:56 – 08:45:12 – 09:32:28 – 10:20:07

You can calculate an average by adding the different values and divide those by the amount of added values. In this case, since we’re working with times, simply adding the values won’t work. To do this I first convert each time into seconds:

08 * 3600 + 30 * 60 + 56 = 28800 + 1800 + 56 = 30656 seconds

08 *3600 + 45 * 60 + 12 = 28800 + 2700 + 12 = 31512 seconds

09*3600 + 32*60 + 28 = 32400 + 1920 + 28 = 34348 seconds

10*3600 + 20*60 + 07 = 36000 + 1200 + 7 = 37207 seconds

Now we add those results together and divide it by the amount of times, 4 in this case.

(30656 + 31512 + 34348 + 37207) / 4 = 33430,75 seconds

Now we convert this result back to hours, minutes and seconds

First the hours

33430,75 / 3600 = 9.286 (9 hours + 0.286 hours)

Then the minutes

0.286h * 3600 = 1029.6 seconds

1029.6/60 = 17.16 (17 minutes + 0,16 minutes)

And finally the seconds

0.16 * 60 = 9.6 seconds or ~10 seconds

So, the result is 9:17:10. I thinks it’s right, nevertheless, if I made mistakes or if you know a better solution thanks to let me know.

Le line-up:

    • Art!Itch (19.45-20.30 uur)
